Tulips…

I‘ve been thinking about….

TULIPS!

Daffodils get all the love for being the early spring bloomers, but for me, tulips take center stage.  They arrive with a range of colors and move from bud to bloom in a delicate performance that transforms the world from winter to spring.

Maybe because it was such a snowy winter, or maybe because I am enjoying this annual show for the last time with this garden, that my dozens of red tulips look particularly beautiful this year.

They will sparkle in the sunshine and wave with the breezes for the next week or so.  Then, the blooms will drop. Later, the leaves will wither, and these lovely flowers will once again hunker down in the earth to rest until their new year.

I got these tulip bulbs many years ago from friend Harry who knows how to cultivate gardens. I am not as savvy as Harry.  But I followed his directions and was astounded and thrilled when tulips sprouted — and bloomed! — in the spring.  And then for so many more springs.

Tulips don’t appear in A Morning Stroll in Noanie’s Garden as Jamie and Noanie explore a summer garden in the book.  But they are there, with bulbs gathering energy for the next big show.

There must be life lessons here.  Like, come early!  Jazz up the party when it is most needed!  Then exit the stage for others, with patience, knowing your moment in the spotlight will be so appreciated when it comes again.
