Welcome to my new adventure!
Funny how life takes unexpected turns.
After decades of teaching — mostly middle schoolers who I just loved — I now find myself teaching and learning with my little grandchildren. And with no thought —ever! — of writing books for children, here I am!
Little Children, BIG Feelings comes from a lifelong love of words, and a deep appreciation of how words help make sense of an often confounding world. I believe that knowing what to call a feeling helps children negotiate emotional highs and lows.
In this story written with my 3-6-year old grands in mind, the little girl is very excited about a long-anticipated camping trip with Noanie, PopPop, the aunts and uncles and all her cousins. But when she learns that PopPop is not feeling well, her euphoria turns to worry. These are just two of the words that Mommy shares to help the little girl understand her BIG feelings. And as the book reveals, she ultimately discovers the best BIG feeling of all!
COMING SOON! Today Cara Goes to Kindergarten, explores how a little girl — with the love of her Mommy and Daddy — finds answers to big questions — and her smile! — as she goes off to her first day of kindergarten.
I hope you will come along with me on this new adventure by sharing my books with your special little ones. And that you will delve into this website!
There is much more to come!! I am so glad you are along for the fun!

I’ve Been Thinking...
… how grateful I am to have this opportunity to share ideas with old and new friends. And I am rather amazed that I have a blog! I first heard the term “blog” at a National History Day summer conference at the University of Maryland – way back in the late 1990s. The idea of a log, kept and shared online, seemed so “out there.” I remember sharing what I had learned with my principal, who was as intrigued as I with this new idea. Within months, blogs and blogging were ubiquitous. And now here I am. My intent is to “post” (how “with-it” of me!) a couple of times a month. Maybe more as the spirit moves me. Some will be quick thoughts. But knowing myself well, some will be a bit longer! My intent, and hope, is that what I post will be interesting and possibly informative – and perhaps thought-provoking. You may perceive that I am not a big techie. It takes me a bit to warm to new technology, but once I “get it,” I happily embrace it, celebrating how it enhances my life.
So… here’s to BLOGGING!
The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog," was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999. Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used "blog" as both a noun and verb ("to blog," meaning "to edit one's weblog or to post to one's weblog") and devised the term "blogger" in connection with Pyra Labs' Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.
